A Sunken Outlook

A Sunken Outlook

It was just one of those mid 1970 pencil reflex draws, where nobody's around and you can do whatever the hell you want with your hand, without someone asking you what your doing. I used drafting pencils . . . a mechanical drafting pencil with somewhat soft lead. I'd put a tremendous amount of weight into the paper, balancing the absolute spasm necessary to express me innards. This was done on an index card, looking somewhat like a person very adjusted to his component architecture, or seating arrangement. This person is gazing out upon his element of control, much as a self confident denizen would survey the street from his low profile car; some such other description would also suffice. The line exuding from the cheek-nose suggestion, underneath the wiggly eye, isn't an incineration device. It was merely the act of holding on to the pencil and having that move drawn; then dealing with the result.

Another drawing

Another drawing

Originally I saw a moose in this drawing but because of an aesthetic conflict with titling other files I dropped that designation in the current setting on this server. It's there in the original scanner picture file name. Done circa 1990 in Kansas City. The bulk of that artwork/modality never saw the light of day. It was too rough and unformed. Occasionally something would remain that I enjoyed keeping. Anyway, the concept is one of depicting the spirit of the animal.

The presaging authority

The presaging authority

Another salvage of content from massive nervous energy. This time the duck bill was obvious to the marching uni-step rhythm. The parasitic overlord like entity attaches, either invisible to the psyche of that forward driven physical duck, what have you, or it's the vibrational equivalent to/in some incarnation-like drama. ( i.e., two spirit forms seen in a non-paper dream) One might grasp the underside of an airfoil like wing structure perpendicularly intersecting the overlord entity. I have no idea what that might imply. Otherwise that's just confabulation, and one shouldn't read into what's not really there. (Underneath the duck's bill are the arms of that human-like duck.)

Perceptual

Perceptual

This is a study in three dimensional form. The jetting figure is a cross between inanimate perception and corporeal animate existence. The arching elbow eclipses the shoulder-less grasp of some sharp crown-like blade. The inordinately small feet point to the ultimate collapse of this entity into the fabric of the artist's drawn perspective. Obviously the eye's folded with what might pass for a mouth jetting about a rather rambunctious face. This is absolute minimalism. The two top horizontal lines are saying only one thing. One (me) is shorter than the other (you). The vertical rectangle visually continues from the mid horizontal line and implies a turnstile like portal; desk or some such other imaginary existence. One might configure, from looking at the feet, one dog/human/superhuman cross-like being. It appears there's no need for two arms. What I try to squeeze out in meaning might not make sense to another person with very different eye muscles and perceptual viewpoint.

Off somewhere I ain't

Off somewhere I ain't

This denotes a flying entity and a land dweller in synergistic rapport. I simplistically designated the mammalian cow and reptilian bird as convenient labels though there's really no logical correlate upon any reasonable analytic basis. There's some other type specie out there that inhabits the pasture lands and makes such necessary friendships. I just don't know exactly what that would be. With that said, hey, make something up.

Spinfast

Spinfast

This is the first pencil sketching I've done this year. I started doodling while discussing layout in front of sister Jill's landscape plans. When home I took her 2B pencil and made an attempt to feel with the open window and wind coaxing me. Out of the swath of paper I chose this stab to display primarily because it was less cluttered and more mysterious. One should be able to grasp six general spin vectors. In addition there's a facial element if one's intent on maintaining human outlook for this experiment.

Tapestry

Tapestry

This work was done using standard issue pens. It represents a potpourri of interdependent facial outlooks. Each face having elements borne from their adjoining vying expressive neighbor. The pen's abrupt violence might terminate or add to each respective drama. No one's the wiser. This might be structural outlook and homework for hallucination 101.

Dimension

Dimension

Since someone in my family had sequestered the original I Gimped my way with the noisy photocopy, making a Sobel edge detect; color/invert, and layer/color/threshold cleanup. This drawing is facial in tone and minimal in intent. The circular arch is reminiscent of the depicted aura surrounding one's head, though in this case serves as a portal to the headily dimension outside yet in that very head.

Burden

Burden

This was a salvage work with scissors. I enjoyed the pointed spin to the feet and could not get myself to throw it away. The grumpy face with bulbous nose and pincer-like jaw characterizes the prototypical steadfast drunken sailor, whom isn't human at all. And the realized burden is typified in that bent down posture affixed throughout time. One could also imagine a lean companion piggy backing upon that sailor. No telling whom that other foreboding weight might be.

A future composite

Of all the titles this strikes me as the most abstract. Again the nose and cheek are combined for efficiency. After all, who needs two parts when one will suffice. Armor plating comes standard for his ears. A gentle finger touch intercedes a side glance taking in a pending event. This unit of consciousness is guiding while observing. Telemetry's built in, with the taste, smell and cognizance antennae as standard features.

As you can see sedimentary material invokes the classic pool form which is inherently more difficult to implement ala natural. The explaination is quite unambigious. Sedimentary rock shows more immediate character and thus specifies a more precise complement. Pooled water does not have the constraints that a neighboring rock would have.

A slate patio and brick job done for John Fabre at his father's house prior to my moving to Kansas City in 1986 to complete my chemistry degree. Mr. Fabre defaulted upon his terms of payment. I had filed a claim with the San Diego County Division of Labor Standards Enforcement but was unable to make the long drive to San Diego at the appointed hour. His acquaintance derived from an uncompleted hovercraft project undertaken in 1982 at 1336 Garlingford Costa Mesa CA 92626.
